Fam Pics: From one pot to another
I made it just in time (I hope) for the yummy mummies's Fam Pic this month. I have been "experimenting" in our small garden and have been attempting to grow edible stuff. So far I have harvested some bok choi (variety of chinese cabbage) and now my chillis are ready for re-planting.
I started growing them in planters that are really meant for border flowering plants. But due to lack of space (and lack of patience and skills), the planters served my purpose to grow the seedlings.
When they were big enough for smaller pots, my 3-year old boy helped in digging them up by hand careful not to damage the roots. We transferred them to pots that fit on the window sill in our kitchen.
Here is a shot of the first chilli fruit I "harvested" two weeks ago. They're very productive now and soon I'll have more than I need for a suka'ng maanghang. But what we're really looking forward to is to cook some proper chicken tinola with fresh sili leaves!

KK has kalamansi, you have chili! where do you guys get those plants? bat ako, walang mahagilap dito?
Hi, wow, ganda naman your chili plant. Kami meron dito, puro siling labuyo plant naman...Hubby is eating those daily, nope, he's not Bicolano...Am sure your chicken tinola would taste great with the chili leaves.
hi ana... I bought a 50pence packet with 12 seeds hehe But kalamansi? I really need to catch up on my bloghop.
hi rowena... aacck eat them daily? Yikes ang tindi!
I tried to plant edibles too but for some reason they won't grow, my bad :-(
those chillies look good enough for tinola
I hope that very soon you will have enough of the sili leaves for your craved-for tinola. And here I am wanting broccoli. hahaha
Great potted pictures, Auee.
I'm spending a great time maintaining my plants. Maybe when gardening is 'no sweat' for me anymore, I'll take up these kinds of plants. Mas interesting yata ito than flowers and all.
how i wish i could also grow anything--any plant (he he he), and document the process through pictures, like you did.
hey, potted sili, that's nice! Buti ka pa, you can grow plants... I did not inherit a single drop of the green blood form my mom! haha
And I missed this fam pic edition. sigh.
Glad to have you back, auee! :D
I am green with envy, joke.Good for you to be able to grow these things and I think I am challenged to try since last year my daughter wrote in her essay that I can do a lot of things but has no skill in gardening.Yup. That bad. Chateau, dalawa tayo, hehe...
Enjoy your produce, Auee and who knows, you may even have a ranch when you decide to retire ;)
Glad to "see" you! ((hugs))
Very nice. Green thumbs ka pala. You probably have herbs too.
I used to have a chili bush on a pot and when I've harvested the fruits, i prune it down- it just kept on growing and the stem because thicker and it was almost like a little tree but then too sad we had to leave for Australia (who have strict quarantine laws) so I just left it with a friend in New Zealand.
Good to know that you are now self sufficient in sili with your tinalo and chili sauce. You also have a green thumb there - your plants are looking so healthy!
i wished may verandah ako dito sa boat... para mag tanim din...pero mamatay yata sa asin hehe your plants look very healthy....
Hi Auee. Sorry for my late visit. I love the idea of picking fruits and vegetables from your own backyard. I remember when I first moved to our house, my FIL gave us some calamansi trees and I was delighted the moment they started bearing fruits.
It's wonderful that your son was able to help you replant the plants.
Chicken tinola, yummy!
i am soo envious of people with green thumbs like you. i can grow plants that can live even when neglected. ive been trying to grow a tomato for years and all i always get is a poor excuse of a plant. but i stil love plants :)
hi pining, maiingit ka sa neighbour kong Pinoy. Naadik na sa gardening nya nag-lease na nang allotment. As in he gives us ampalaya, squash, runner beans etc!
hi annamanila, I will "harvest" my first batch of sili leaves. I've got 6 mature plants ready for trimming! YEHEY.
hi Lynn, thanks for dropping by. I kept the flowering plants in the border, then I've got some green houseplants, too. But I thought I'd like some that I can actually eat!
hi SexyMom, I am so thankful for digital cameras. One of the best inventions of our time 'no?
hi chats, naku I missed the PICS deadline din no! Sawsaw lang ako haha Kunwari kasali pa din.
hi julie, oh dear binuking ka? Weird topic for a school essay. I gave some friends a pot of my semi-grown sili. We're now comparing how fast each are maturing. They were surprised to see the "sisters" of their plants are already flowering on my window sill! So siguro nga may green thumb ako. YEHEY.
hi Leah, yes I did haha Matatawa ka. I planted mints and coriander. I wasn't expecting them to grow. They did! The mints though were completely ravaged by slugs! The coriander, are just there. I don't know what to do with them!
hi Vicky, sayang! I'm half-wishing I was your neighbour hehe
hi sha, e kung sea weeds kaya itanim mo? hehe
hi Rachel, no worries. Late din ako sa lahat hehe Wow you have calamansi, too? I want one!
hi cess, alam mo I used to have a tomato. Fruiting na. Then I keep forgetting to water it and then winter came, kawawa naman.
You can add coriander to your salsa, or to a wonderful Laksa soup! Ang hirap minsan maghanap ng coriander dito. I wish matuloy ko na ang PLAN kong mag plant ng herbs.
hi chats, oo I did the salsa thing hehe Mga 5-times na since sinusulit namin ang remaining sunshine, panay BBQ. Di ko alam yang Laksa soup ah, google ko later.
